Over the course of the past year and a half I’ve been working on and off with same model. This model lives near my studio and as he’s been very liberal with his time, this has given me a chance to get to know him and as such the images have progressed organically.
I’ll be talking mainly about the use of charcoal and chalk, both ostensibly mass mediums, but here’s some brief thoughts on line and mass as it relates to drawing.
Last winter it seemed particularly dark, cold and rather depressing where I live in County Cork, southern Ireland. Given my rather melancholy mood, being someone who’s greatly influenced emotionally by the weather, my work turned to the effects and the affects I was experiencing.
Recently I’ve very much enjoyed painting water, this has been an interest of many other painters throughout history.
